Kilkenny County Council Sustainable Masterplan Scheme

Kilkenny County Council made a decision to purchase the site of the brewery from Diageo. The overall site which measures approx. 19 acres was purchased with a view to job creation and the development of public amenity areas on the site. The objective for the site was “to develop a new low carbon energy strategy for the master plan and to advance the provision of near-zero energy buildings on-site”.

Our energy strategy produced innovatively and cost-effective design solutions especially in regard to renewable technology, these included:-
 Solar Photovoltaic Installs
 Hydro
 Bio-Energy Lid
 Centralised Heat and Power (CHP)
 Public Lighting
 Demand Side Management
 Renewable Heat Sources
 District Heating Network
 Ventilation
 Energy / Heat Strategy for Individual Buildings

Our strategy also contained the evaluation of each of our proposed options in the context of site restrictions which include Architectural Conservation Area, Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Area, and also Flood Risk Assessment.
