Building Services Engineering

Do you have a building project that needs MEP services designed and project managed?

Building Services Engineering

Our MEP team is experienced working internationally so whether you need MEP services designed or project managed for your overseas project or whether you are looking to partner with an experienced MEP provider for a large infrastructure & construction project we can definitely assist including BIM, design, and build and master planning.

Mechanical Engineering

Lawler Consulting are experts in the design and quality supervision of the core mechanical services associated with buildings. This includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water services and sprinkler systems in commercial buildings. We also have expertise in the design of steam, gas, high purity water and CIP systems in industrial, production and healthcare facilities.

The single greatest change to the design of mechanical services systems has been brought about by the requirement to reduce building energy consumption and carbon emissions. This calls for a more detailed design process and early interaction with the architect to maximise the passive design potential of the building. Many of our recent projects have achieved design solutions without the need for any ventilation or air conditioning.

The size of heating systems has been reduced by increasing building insulation levels and improving the airtightness of the building envelope. The drive to reduce energy costs has also led to the incorporation of new plant solutions for buildings. We are increasingly utilising biomass boiler plant, heat pumps, solar heating, open-loop geothermal systems and combined heat and power solutions in the buildings we design.

In order to reduce water consumption in buildings we have incorporated rainwater harvesting and can provide solutions that involve the use of private water sources with water treatment, greywater schemes and other water conservation measures.

Electrical Engineering

Lawler Consulting are experts in the design and quality supervision of electrical services associated with buildings. In addition to the traditional services of power distribution, lighting, data, fire alarm and security, we have specialist knowledge of UPS systems and electrical services design for hazardous areas.

As electricity costs have escalated more significantly than other fuels, the potential to achieve energy cost reduction is greatest where electrical consumption can be affected. This has resulted in adjustments to the standard design solutions previously offered. Many of our buildings are now incorporating combined heat and power (CHP) plant, as the base electrical load can be met more cost-effectively by site-generated electricity.

Intelligent dimming systems have been incorporated into the lighting design of many of our projects. This allows global or local reduction of lighting levels to reduce energy consumption. Occupancy sensors and daylighting sensors in lighting systems deliver demand-driven use of lighting and a consequential reduction in energy consumption. The use of variable speed drives on pumped systems and fans has also been very successful in achieving reduced energy costs.

Project Management

Lawler Consulting has extensive experience of delivering fast track mechanical and electrical engineering projects on time and in the budget, time after time. We pride ourselves on our excellent communication and “can do” attitude. All of our engineers have the added benefit of advice and mentoring from someone at director level.

This means at all times, there is a Project Manager with 30+ years’ experience in the office on hand to help our engineers out. Their wisdom can be particularly useful when it comes to managing multiple sites, each with specific and tailored needs. Lawler Consulting staff can also remove any added pressure wherefrom the shoulders of our clients through our tendering services.

Our project managers can contact both local and national companies about your project to prepare specifications, prices and full tenders and return them back to you with our own analysis and recommendations.

Building Information Modelling (BIM)

The use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) allows a quicker and more efficient installation of services. We use BIM in many of our projects to help facilitate an integrated approach throughout the building lifecycle including facilities management. BIM enables collaboration between all the project teams so we can deliver developed designs that reduce construction programmes and improve site health and safety risk.

We are now seeing more opportunities in the office sector also due to BIM which is facilitating the offsite design process significantly by providing construction professionals with the necessary insights and tools to plan, design, construct and manage their buildings and infrastructure more efficiently. We are ahead of the curve in digital delivery having completed several BIM Level 2 projects to date.

Design & Build

Lawler Consulting has for many years successfully delivered projects in a design and build capacity. Some of the largest contractors in the UK and Ireland have used our services to deliver prisons, healthcare facilities, schools, retail projects and more.  We list Laing O’Rourke, John Sisk & Sons, Balfour Beatty and JJ Rhatigan’s as clients. This relationship often starts at completion phase of public works contracts where our bid team have repeatedly contributed to competition wins.

We pride ourselves on submission quality and thinking ‘outside the box’ in delivering both innovation and value at the submission stage. For many years we have seen the value that coordinated designs bring to clients in terms of cost savings and faster programme delivery. With the release of the Roadmap to Digital Transition for Ireland’s Construction Industry, the transition to digital delivery has never been more important.

At the design stage, we work to ensure the most economic solutions are developed without compromising the client’s brief. Our construction team understand implicitly the challenges faced in the delivery of projects to tight deadlines, and through many years of being embedded in ‘Design and Build’ contracts, we continuously deliver.

Masterplanning

Lawler Consulting is committed to creating communities that will enhance the quality of life. Through close collaboration with sister companies Pivotal International and Lawler Sustainability, we focus on identifying opportunities in all areas of the projects developed in architecture, mechanical and electrical and energy.

The success of a master plan is in creating a balance between the visionary ideas and practical delivery. Urban design relates to the arrangement, appearance and functionality of towns and cities, and in particular the shaping and uses of urban public space while benefiting the community.

We focus on the planned areas impact on the local environment and community by creating an MEP design that incorporates technologies and systems that will reduce the developments overall site impact. We can help these sites develop their own energy and therefore allow the power coming from the grid to supply homes and smaller areas where renewable technology installations may not be as easy.
