Waste to Energy Design & Implementation for BHSL
When Lawler Consulting won the CIBSE Building Performance Consultancy of the Year Award in 2020, our submission was praised for the innovation we displayed in delivering energy from chicken manure.
BHSL is an Irish agri-tech company that is known for Fluidised Bed Combustion (FBC) – that is, converting untreated poultry manure into energy for heating, cooling and electricity generation to meet the energy needs of farms.
Waste to Energy
We worked with BHSL to design how to convert heat from poultry droppings into energy, with excess heat used to warm the hen houses.
The resulting outcome of this was:
- Reduced Energy Consumption
- Better Bird Welfare
- Decreased Pollution
- Improved Business Case for Farmers
This technology has been widely exported and used in chicken houses across the world, including Maryland in the United States of America.
