Carrigtwohill Community College – Cork

Lawler Consulting is thrilled to be making excellent progress on the Carrigtwohill Community College development in Cork.

Rapid Build  Design and Build Schools Programme

The development also comes under the “Rapid Build” design and build schools programme in coordination with JJ Rhatigan & Company for the provision of Sustainable M & E Design Services for a new 3 & 4 storey building to accommodate up to 1,000 post-primary school students which formed part of a multi-school development in partnership with the Department of Education & Skills.

The 11,102m² development includes P.E. Hall, 3 classroom Special Needs Unit, Support Teaching spaces, external material storage rooms, ancillary accommodation and woodwork external covered spaces, the project was delivered within a strict delivery schedule.

As with all our large time-sensitive projects it has gone through extensive BIM preconstruction activities to ensure all the recessed services are fully coordinated in the precast walls and the tight deadlines are achieved.

Taking into consideration current supply chain lead times, these preconstruction activities will pay dividends.

The revit model on this project will continue through to the operation of the school which can be used as a learning portal for students and allow everyone to fully benefit from the digital twin of the building.

Sustainable Design Services

Sustainable design solutions were utilised where possible including BIM at early design stage and on services such as heating, lighting and life safety solutions

  • BIM – full clash detection model used for F.M., Boiler house plant rooms prefabricated off site;
  • Provision of BER and Certification.

Modern Methods of Construction

  • All services precast into the walls and all radiator units recessed into precast walls prior to installation on site for the SNU classrooms.
