Through a competitive public tender process Lawler Consulting were appointed as the mechanical and electrical engineers as part of the design team for this project, a new 3,215m² standalone extension and refurbishment works in existing post primary school.

The Abbey Community College extension includes general classrooms, specialist rooms, construction studies, science rooms, home economics and a full Special needs suite. Fire alarm, PA, data, phones and security were integrated into the existing systems within the existing building. Sustainable lighting design solutions were utilised.
Room function changes took place in the exiting school also, including staff room, toilets and canteen areas. The project included reconfiguration of the existing roadway and carpark layouts, extension of natural gas mains and replacement of the main natural gas meter and ESB meter. This project was successfully achieved within a live school environment.
