Held annually in London by CIBSE (the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers), the Building Performance Awards recognise organisations that are delivering measurable improvements in the performance, efficiency and safety of buildings.
To be recognised on this international stage is a significant achievement for our growing team across Ireland and the UK, and reflects our commitment to ensuring buildings deliver real operational performance – not just design intent.
Why the CIBSE Building Performance Awards Matter
The CIBSE Building Performance Awards are widely regarded as one of the most respected accolades in the built environment sector. Unlike many awards that focus primarily on architectural design, the CIBSE awards celebrate organisations that demonstrate measurable performance outcomes in real buildings.
This focus is particularly important as the built environment faces increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and deliver healthier indoor environments for occupants.
Buildings account for a significant proportion of global energy consumption and carbon emissions. Achieving net zero buildings therefore requires not only better design but also rigorous commissioning, monitoring, and post-occupancy evaluation to ensure systems perform as intended throughout the building lifecycle.
The awards recognise organisations that are leading this shift – from theoretical performance to measured, verified results in operation.
Our Philosophy: Real Performance, Real Efficiency, Real Results
At the Lawler Group, our approach to building performance is built around a simple principle:
- Real Performance.
- Real Efficiency.
- Real Results.
By combining the engineering design expertise of Lawler Consulting with the specialist building performance services of Lawler Sustainability, we are able to support projects across the full building lifecycle – from concept and design through to operation and optimisation.

Our services include:
- Energy and carbon modelling
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and embodied carbon analysis
- Building certification including LEED, BREEAM, WELL, Fitwel and EDGE
- Energy audits and decarbonisation roadmaps
- Digital building monitoring and optimisation
- Facilities management and predictive maintenance
A significant part of our work focuses on improving the performance of existing buildings, where the greatest opportunities for energy and carbon savings often lie. By combining advanced simulation with investment-grade energy audits, we provide clients with market-costed strategies that support informed investment decisions and accelerate decarbonisation.
Driving Innovation in Building Performance
Innovation is central to how the Lawler Group helps buildings achieve better performance outcomes.
Our teams integrate energy metering, monitoring platforms and building management systems (BMS) to provide real-time insights into how buildings operate. This allows building owners and operators to identify inefficiencies quickly and optimise system performance through data-driven decision making.
Through our monitoring platform and remote optimisation services, we currently support over 100 buildings across multiple client portfolios, providing live performance data, automated alerts, and monthly reporting on energy use and environmental conditions.
Post-occupancy evaluation (POE) also plays a critical role in ensuring buildings perform as intended once occupied. Our team is currently delivering Measurement and Verification (M&V) to IPMVP standards across 15 local authority buildings in Dublin, including leisure centres, swimming pools and offices.
One flagship example is Tom Johnson House (TJH), the €45 million headquarters of the Department of Climate Action and the National Cybersecurity Centre. Our ongoing post-occupancy evaluation has already identified additional energy-saving opportunities following handover, leading to further optimisation of building systems.

- TJH: Roof Mounted Solar PV Array System
We are also exploring digital twin technologies as part of our measurement and verification approach, helping clients understand how buildings behave in operation and enabling more precise performance improvements.
This combination of commissioning, monitoring, and post-occupancy evaluation ensures that buildings continue to improve over time – rather than drifting away from their design performance.
Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
Delivering high-performing buildings requires strong collaboration across project teams. Within the Lawler Group we actively foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and knowledge sharing.
Our sustainability team meets regularly to discuss project performance, share lessons learned and develop new approaches to building optimisation. We also contribute to the wider industry through CPDs, webinars and professional engagement with organisations including CIBSE, LETI, the IGBC and the SEAI.
By combining technical expertise with education and knowledge transfer, we aim to raise awareness of building performance challenges and help the industry move toward better performing, lower carbon buildings.
Thank You to Our Team and Clients
Receiving recognition at the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2026 would not be possible without the dedication of our team and the support of our clients and collaborators.
We are incredibly proud of the multidisciplinary expertise within the Lawler Group and the commitment our people bring to every project.
We would also like to thank the clients and project partners who trust us to help improve the performance of their buildings and support their journey toward net zero.
Looking Ahead
The transition to net zero buildings requires a fundamental shift in how buildings are designed, delivered and operated.
At the Lawler Group, we believe the future of the built environment lies in performance-driven engineering – where data, monitoring and collaboration ensure buildings achieve their full potential in operation.
Recognition at the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2026 reinforces our commitment to continuing this work and helping clients deliver buildings that are safer, more efficient, and better for the environment.
