The project brief included the provision of a distribution centre for the County Library Service as well as training and meeting rooms and Lawler Consulting provided sustainable MEP design solutions.
The enormous potential of this Town Centre site was critical to the success of the project in the long term and the design solution and building contract included substantial works to the rear of the building to open up access and views of the Tullamore River and to open up access onto the disused bridge over the river.
New extensions were punched out to the front into O’Connor Square and to the rear towards the river with the intention of increasing natural daylight in the building and opening the building out to the public, particularly on O’Connor Square. The library floor area has expanded substantially and administration, meeting rooms, and archive and distribution storage have been located at the first-floor level.
